In statements to journalists, Amândio Brito explained that the work on the aforementioned street was agreed between the former municipality and a contractor, through a call for tenders, through which it was the winning company has been selected to carry out the work.
"The work was supposed to be finished in a short space of time, however we are seeing that there is no positive sign of it starting. On January 28th of this year, i.e. as soon as we took office, this contract had already been agreed with the winning company, which undertook to carry out the work by 2024," he said.
However, the mayor pointed out that this project has been dragging on for a year now, with stones having been placed on the road to upgrade the street, but so far this hasn't happened.
The mayor also said that in January he met with the contractor responsible for the work to find out why it hadn't started so far, and he gave his reasons. However, he guaranteed that it had been agreed that the company would "quickly" mobilize all the necessary conditions for the project to begin.
"From January of this year until today the work has not started, in fact we have been realizing that this situation has been disturbing the circulation and is also bringing a bad landscape image of the city of Nova Sintra", he stressed.
In view of this situation, Brito assured that the municipality is in constant contact with the contractor who has already presented a justification today in order to resume the work as soon as possible.
""We are waiting for the work to start at any moment so that we can return the street to a rehabilitated and passable condition," he concluded.
